  1. 1

    Al haaaqqah

The Inevitable (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)!

  2. 2

    Mal haaaqqah

    What is the Inevitable?

  3. 3

    Wa maaa adraaka mal haaaqqah

And what will make you know what the Inevitable is?

  4. 4

Kazzabat samoodu wa 'Aadum bil qaari'ah

Thamûd and ‘Âd people denied the Qâri‘ah (the striking Hour of Judgement)!

  5. 5

    Fa-ammaa Samoodu fauhlikoo bittaaghiyah

As for Thamûd, they were destroyed by the awful cry!

  6. 6

Wa ammaa 'Aadun fa uhlikoo bireehin sarsarin 'aatiyah

And as for ‘Âd, they were destroyed by a furious violent wind!

  7. 7

Sakhkharahaa 'alaihim sab'a la yaalinw wa samaaniyata ayyaamin husooman fataral qawma feehaa sar'aa ka annahum a'jaazu nakhlin khaawiyah

Which Allâh imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms!

  8. 8

    Fahal taraa lahum mim baaqiyah

Do you see any remnants of them?

  9. 9

Wa jaaa'a Firawnu wa man qablahoo wal mu'tafikaatu bilhaati'ah

And Fir‘aun (Pharaoh), and those before him, and the cities overthrown [the towns of the people of [Lût (Lot)] committed sin.

  10. 10

Fa'ansaw Rasoola Rabbihim fa akhazahum akhzatar raabiyah

And they disobeyed their Lord’s Messenger, so He seized them with a strong punishment.

  11. 11

Innaa lammaa taghal maaa'u hamalnaakum fil jaariyah

Verily, when the water rose beyond its limits [Nûh’s (Noah) Flood], We carried you (mankind) in the floating [ship that was constructed by Nûh (Noah)]

  12. 12

    Linaj'alahaa lakum tazki ratanw-wa ta'iyahaa unzununw waa'iyah

That We might make it (Noah’s ship) an admonition for you and that it might be retained by the retaining ears.

  13. 13

Fa izaa nufikha fis soori nafkhatunw waahidah

Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing (the first one).

  14. 14

Wa humilatil ardu wal jibaalu fadukkataa dakkatanw waahidah

And the earth and the mountains shall be removed from their places, and crushed with a single crushing.

  15. 15

    Fa yawma'izinw waqa'atil waaqi'ah

Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall.

  16. 16

    Wanshaqqatis samaaa'u fahiya yawma 'izinw-waahiyah

And the heaven will be rent asunder, for that Day it (the heaven) will be frail and torn up.

  17. 17

Wal malaku 'alaaa arjaaa'ihaa; wa yahmilu 'Arsha Rabbika fawqahum yawma'izin samaaniyah

And the angels will be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them.

  18. 18

Yawma'izin tu'radoona laa takhfaa min kum khaafiyah

That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden.

  19. 19

Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenihee fa yaqoolu haaa'umuq ra'oo kitaabiyah

Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Here! read my Record!

  20. 20

    Innee zannantu annee mulaaqin hisaabiyah

"Surely, I did believe that I shall meet my Account!"

  21. 21

    Fahuwa fee 'eeshatir raadiyah

So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing.

  22. 22

    Fee jannnatin 'aaliyah

    In a lofty Paradise,

  23. 23

    Qutoofuhaa daaniyah

The fruits in bunches whereof will be low and near at hand.

  24. 24

Kuloo washraboo haneee'am bimaaa aslaftum fil ayyaamil khaliyah

Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past!

  25. 25

Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo bishimaalihee fa yaqoolu yaalaitanee lam oota kitaaabiyah

But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record!

  26. 26

    Wa lam adri maa hisaabiyah

"And that I had never known how my Account is!

  27. 27

"Would that it had been my end (death)!

  28. 28

    مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ

    Maaa aghnaa 'annee maaliyah

    "My wealth has not availed me;

  29. 29

    Halaka 'annee sultaaniyah

"My power (and arguments to defend myself) have gone from me!"

  30. 30

    خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ

    Khuzoohu faghullooh

    (It will be said): "Seize him and fetter him;

  31. 31

    Summal Jaheema sallooh

Then throw him in the blazing Fire.

  32. 32

    Summa fee silsilatin zar'uhaa sab'oona ziraa'an faslukooh

"Then fasten him with a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits!"

  33. 33

    Innahoo kaana laa yu'minubillaahil 'Azeem

Verily, he used not to believe in Allâh, the Most Great,

  34. 34

wa laa yahuddu 'alaa ta'aamil miskeen

And urged not on the feeding of Al-Miskîn (the poor).[1]

(V.69:34) a) See the footnote of (V.2:83). b) Narrated ‘Abdullâh bin ‘Amr A man asked the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, "What sort of deeds (or what qualities) of Islâm are good?" The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied, "To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not know". (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.1, Hadith No.11).

  35. 35

    Falaysa lahul yawma haahunaa hameem

So no friend has he here this Day,

  36. 36

Wa laa ta'aamun illaa min ghisleen

Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds.

  37. 37

    Laa yaakuluhooo illal khati'oon

None will eat it except the Khâti’ûn (sinners, disbelievers, polytheists).

  38. 38

    Falaaa uqsimu bimaa tubsiroon

So I swear by whatsoever you see,

  39. 39

    Wa maa laa tubsiroon

And by whatsoever you see not,

  40. 40

    Innahoo laqawlu Rasoolin kareem

That this is verily, the word of an honoured Messenger [i.e. Jibrîl (Gabriel) or Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم which he has brought from Allâh].

  41. 41

Wa ma huwa biqawli shaa'ir; qaleelam maa tu'minoon

It is not the word of a poet: little is that you believe!

  42. 42

Wa laa biqawli kaahin; qaleelam maa tazakkaroon

Nor is it the word of a soothsayer (or a foreteller): little is that you remember!

  43. 43

    Tanzeelum mir rabbil 'aalameen

This is the Revelation sent down from the Lord of the ‘Âlamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).

  44. 44

Wa law taqawwala 'alainaa ba'dal aqaaweel

And if he (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) had forged a false saying concerning Us (Allâh جل جلاله),

  45. 45

    La-akhaznaa minhu bilyameen

We surely would have seized him by his right hand (or with power and might),

  46. 46

    Summa laqata'naa minhul wateen

And then We certainly would have cut off his life artery (aorta),

  47. 47

    Famaa minkum min ahadin'anhu haajizeen

And none of you could have withheld Us from (punishing) him.

  48. 48

    Wa innahoo latazkiratul lilmuttaqeen

And verily, this (Qur’an) is a Reminder for the Muttaqûn (the pious. See V.2:2).

  49. 49

Wa inna lana'lamu anna minkum mukazzibeen

And verily, We know that there are some among you that belie (this Qur’ân). (Tafsir At-Tabarî)

  50. 50

    Wa innahu lahasratun 'alal kaafireen

And indeed it (this Qur’ân) will be an anguish for the disbelievers (on the Day of Resurrection).[1]

(V.69:50) See the footnote of (V.3:85).

  51. 51

    Wa innahoo lahaqqul yaqeen

And verily, it (this Qur’ân) is an absolute truth with certainty.[2]

(V.69:51) See the footnote of (V.10:37).

  52. 52

    Fasbbih bismi Rabbikal 'Azeem

So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.[3]
