Surah 107
Al-Ma'un
المَاعُونِ
Al-Ma'un · Meccan · 7 verses
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
- 1
أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ
Ara-aital lazee yu kazzibu bid deen
Have you seen him who denies the Recompense?
- 2
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
Fa zaalikal lazi yadu'ul-yateem
That is he who repulses the orphan (harshly),[1]
(V.107:2) Narrated Sahl bin Sa‘d رضي الله عنهما : The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this," putting his index and middle fingers together. (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.8, Hadith No.34).

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
Wa la ya huddu 'alaa ta'amil miskeen
And urges not on the feeding of Al-Miskîn (the poor),[2]
(V.107:3) Narrated Abû Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujâhid (fighter) who fights for Allâh’s Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and fasts all the day." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.7, Hadith No.265).

فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ
Fa wai lul-lil mu salleen
So woe unto those performers of Salât (prayers) (hypocrites),
- 5
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ
Al lazeena hum 'an salaatihim sahoon
Those who delay their Salât (prayer from their stated fixed times).
- 6
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ
Al lazeena hum yuraa-oon
Those who do good deeds only to be seen (of men),
- 7
وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ
Wa yamna'oonal ma'oon
And prevent Al-Mâ‘ûn (small kindnesses like salt, sugar, water).
